One can see from the table that the measured electron flux is enough for providing the energy, derived from the recombination rate. Some indirect arguments can be given in favour of corpuscular fluxes as a source of ionization in the E region. For example, corpuscular ionization can explain the strong variability of ionization from night to night in the E region, because the above-mentioned experimental data show that the intensity of corpuscular fluxes undergoes significant variation.
