I came over from an ACS-Meeting in Anaheim by bus, and he picked me up at the bus stop. He had become unusually thin after his severe operation. A deep shadow had fallen over him due to the passing of his beloved wife Mary. Everything seemed to remind him of this tragic event. Both of us had resettled in the academic world, and this opened new discussions on many electrochemical topics. It was admirable how intensely he was engaged in projects of quite different types. He was a remarkable man. I shall not forget him.
